Action Against Hunger focuses on both short term emergency nutritional aid and long term solutions to water scarcity and food security within the region. They have implemented programs improving access to clean water and treating malnutrition all while internationally advocating for support to properly address Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.

UNICEF provides some similar water and nutritional services, but also incorporates improving healthcare through immunization campaigns, despite the severe lack of supporting infrastructure.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest source of humanitarian aid for Yemen, providing millions with both monetary and nutritional support. Their work has been critical in addressing the widespread hunger that plagues the population, as well as the ongoing economic collapse.

Our Idea

Although the mentioned organizations are helping to reduce the crisis in Yemen, we realized that they mainly alleviate short term issues. We propose developing a sustainable agricultural program in Yemen focused on improving soil health, introducing climate-resilient crop varieties, and educating the youth in modern and traditional farming techniques from the region. This program aims to alleviate the ongoing food crisis by increasing local food production and providing stable livelihoods, while preserving Yemen’s rich agricultural heritage, particularly its famed coffee culture. By combining soil restoration efforts with training the young population and promoting crops suited to Yemen’s complex climate, this initiative will help to rebuild Yemen’s agricultural sector!
